The Phoenix Rising Manifesto
ALL MEMBERS MUST READ AND SIGN The Phoenix Rising Manifesto 5 January 2008 World of Warcraft was designed to be a fun, break from life video game where people could help one another achieve new goals and conquer new content. Unfortunately, some people prevent enjoyment by others by focusing more on things such as loot, or coming unprepared to a raid. It is for these and other reasons that this manifesto is being drafted, so all those that are members of Phoenix Rising understand what it means to be a part of this guild. When you have finished reading this manifesto, please reply with, "I, name, have read and agree to the terms of this manifesto." Some people might not agree what is said, and this is understandable. We encourage you to speak with an officer directly about your concerns or to seek an alternative guild. Thank you. 1.) Guild Etiquette People in Phoenix Rising come from all backgrounds, whether it be financial, race, age, or sex. What makes World of Warcraft great is that in the game, all are equal. Any derogatory marks either in guild chat or direct tells are unacceptable and will result in immediate disciplinary action. Joking amongst members is fine, and encouraged, but all members are expected to know what is acceptable, and what is not. 2.) Raid Preparation Phoenix Rising characterizes itself as a casual raiding guild. First and foremost, what does casual mean? Casual means that we don't raid 7 days a week. It means we don't raid 5 hours when we do raid. Casual also means that we don't have attendance requirements. Casual does NOT mean however that members do not have to take this guild seriously by doing such things as PvPing during raid time, refusing to raid to play an alt, coming to a raid unprepared with no consumables or pvp flagged, or not knowing a boss encounter. All members are expected and required to come to each raid with the necessarry potions and consumables. While many people read ahead of time about new or current boss encounters, there are some that do not, and because of it, all are penalized by the wasted time and the fewer boss encounters. As of this manifesto, all members are required to know all current boss encounters and the one or two future bosses listed by an officer. There will be no encounter descriptions for current bosses, and only description for new encounters. This does NOT mean however that you should not research a boss ahead of time. Each minute less discussing is one more minute to attempt and defeat a new boss. Members who do not know current raiding content will be asked to sit out. 3.) Reviewing Results of Raid Phoenix Rising is a team. Raids consist of 25 people, doing 25 things, to make 1 powerful and effective force. A guild will never be successful if only 10, or even 20 members know what to do while the other 5 do not. It is for this reason that we make use of the WoW Web Stats program. It allows for all members to see what each and every other member is doing for a boss encounter. All members are required to review this information and from that, comment and assist other members, or learn from other members, how we can become a better and more powerful guild. We are a team, and on a team, you help other team members become better. 4.) Loot Distribution Phoenix Rising uses a DKP system that awards members Effort Points (EP) for arriving to raids unflagged and on time, after a certain time of raiding (every 30-60 minutes depending on raid), for downing bosses (new bosses award more than farmed bosses), and for staying in the raid until the end. When an item is awarded to a player, the program tells us the Gear Point (GP) value of that item. From these two numbers, the Priority Rating (PR) is determined by taking the EP number and dividing it by your GP number. If your EP is 1000, and your GP is 50, your PR is 20. With that being said, the uglier part of loot must be addressed. First and foremost, members that are "loot hungry" are NOT welcomed in Phoenix Rising. All members that are more concerned about loot than helping the guild should seek membership elsewhere. It cannot be stressed enough that this is a team, and that all members should be happy when another member gets an item, not angry and spitefull. Though we try to stick to the DKP system as well as possible, there are a few exceptions that must be made. Tanks and healers are the core of a guild. You can have a rogue with unbelievable stats, but he wont get to use any of them if your tank dies 10% into a fight. The Phoenix Rising officers expect all members to be knowledgable enough to know when certain exceptions apply. Please note that on the very rare occasion that a loot mistake occurs, members should NEVER vent angry emotions at the officers and the guild. Member concerns about loot distribution, should NOT be addressed in guild chat. Any complaints in guild or raid chat will result in disciplinary action and possible removal from the guild. When an item drops, all members should link their current item along with their PR number, and NOTHING else. The officers will then determine who best deserves the item, based on class, need, and PR. The reason a guild exists is so that many players can come together to help conquer new end-game content. Petty squabbles about imaginary items, on imaginary characters in an imaginary world are unacceptable. With that being said, Phoenix Rising strives to have fun, but when violations of those 4 points occur, many people are cheated from it. If you agree with this manifesto, and want to be a part of the great guild we call Phoenix Rising, please sign the manifesto and join a strong team of dedicated players who wish to conquer the end-game, together.
